Apple Pie v Apple Cumble?

Which do you prefer to bake, and which do you prefer to eat? I personally find that appple crumble is the easiest to make, it literally takes minutes whereas there's a bit more effort to make apple pie since you have to make pastry, unless of course you cheat by buying ready made pasrty! Also, do you use short crust pasrty to make your apple pie or puff pastry? I think i prefer puff pasty, though i usually cheat in making it this way by buying ready made puff pastry. As for eating, well again i'd have to go for apple crumble as i really love the texture of it and i think it tastes sweeter too and i have a sweet tooth. So what about you?

Oh yes, both apple crumble and apple pie are definately best eaten warm! I noticed a few of you mention problems with pie crusts, i never seem to really get a problem, maybe it's the type of dish i use to bake the pie in? I make a lot of steak pies and chicken pies too and never have a problem with my crusts. Perhaps i do have a talent after all, lol!

Oh heck, you're going to make me decide?!?!?! OK... just the smallest tiniest preference for the crumble... just because there's a difference in texture. There! Ya happy? lol. As for baking... they're both as easy as the other. I cheat using the ready made stuff, so I guess that is not the best way to judge! I choose which one to make depending on what I have in the kitchen at the time. Both are perfect for winter nights. I can't wait for it to turn to winter here!

I love apple crumble and usually prefer it. I love the apples sliced really thin and the crumble on top is delicious. Also, I'm not a big fan of pie crust (eating or making it).

Of course, there's always the best of both worlds...make a pie with one crust and a crumble topping! I honestly don't know that I "like" one over the other; I think it depends on what I'm in the mood for. But either one takes 15-30 minutes for me, as I always use fresh apples - though I leave the peels on! ~Sara

I prefer eating apple pie, but I am terrible at making pie crusts, so I usually make apple crumble. I'm a much better cook than I am a baker, and pie crust is just one of those things that I consistantly screw up.

Mmmm, most definitely apple crumble. With cinnamon sprinkled all over it and hot custard... I want some. Now.

Yes, I much prefer apple crumble. I love the crisp sugery texture and I love it with custard. I only make apple tarts on rare occasions and I am a bit lazy so I buy the ready make pastry. Again I like to have it with custard or lashings of fresh cream. Talking about these is making my mouth water. I think I will have to bake some to-morrow.

I prefer to make apple crumble too, I never really like making pastry. I prefer to eat it too, so its a good job really! Its not because of the sweetness though as I don't sweeten either when I make them (unless the apples are really sour when I will put in some sultanas). Its the texture of the cumble I like especially with cream or custard on.
