No ,I won't . I can't kill someone I have loved.I understand that it's a hypothetical situation ,but I can take starving better than the guilt of being so nasty.I can survive without eating for some period- scientifically proven duration is 20 days but people have survived more than that and if there's no help by that time ,then the worst that might follow will be better than the alternative.

My daughter and I both decided there's no way we could eat our pet dog if we were starving. I would even give the dog food before I fed myself. I can't even imagine thinking about eating my pet. She's too precious (which is also her name, precious...lol) :)

Yes. Absolutely. Without a doubt. Though, my husband would have to actually be the one to butcher it and cook it. That part would gross me out, but I guess if I was hungry enough I could do it! I don't actually don't have a pet right now, so that's easy for me to say!

Absolutely NOT! My pets are members of my family, I would not consider eating them, I could not live with myself. I consider that to be cannibalism.
It is absolutely wrong, they would be my company as I starved, they would be there with me. They are among my best friends.

No of course not. My thinking came from the fact that people eat a lot of other animals, so why not their pets.

Wow, you must think that us carivores are terrible people. That we have not feelings for our pets and consider them to be in the food chain.
I consideredmoving last year, andlooked at buying at turkey farm, I decided I could not do it because the turkeys would become pets and I could not kill and eat something I named.
My son who is a man and much more objective says, I don't see a problem, just name them Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Years!

I do find it odd how meat eaters, can eat 'faceless' meat but not animals they know and care for. I can't see any difference myself, they all have the same feelings.

We have a cat that I love so much, he moved with us here from California. So I had to get him an EU passport, shots, a micro chip implant, special carrier, 120 dollar plane ticket. That's one expensive cat. So no I would never eat him. I'd have him bring me mice and I'd eat them... no JK
And we have 2 mean bunnies who grunt at us whenever we get near the cage. And I still wouldn't eat them either. Too furry.
I might eat the bunnies, but I'd have to be able to kill them first and there we run into a problem. And the skinning and eating them raw possibly. No thanks

No I would not. If it was possible, our kids would go and bring food back to me. We have huskies, they are quite able to hunt.
I have been a vegetarian in the past. Back in my teenage years, I was appalled at eating meat. All I ate was fruit and veg. That got way too boring so I went back to eating meat.
There is no way that we could eat our kids. I would starve first. They are an important part of our family.

Oh my - no - what a horrible thought! I know they say desparation and starvation can lead you to do many strange things, but in order to eat my beloved Sasha (or any of my other cats), I would have to kill them first, - and I know that I could not. I cannot even step on an ant, or swot a fly, and if ever my cats bring in an injured rat or mouse, I take it to the Wildlife Sanctuary to try and get it cured, because I could not kill any other living creature. So the very thought of hurting one of my cat babies, if they were looking up at me with their big, trusting eyes - no wsy - I would rather die with them!

If this is a survival situation I think our pets will die sooner than us. WE at least know how to use up the least resources to survive, while pets get their food shelter and protection from us. animals in the wild would definitely survive longer than pets, or humans I think.
But even if they are way way healthier and meaty, I will not eat my pets or any other human beings. Most pets I had were bony and sick when they came to us, and we took care of them to the point they get healthier and bigger - there is no way I could eat them even if for them to return the favour. For sure they won't eat me either as I am naturally skinny person LOL

If my survival depended on eating my pet, I would eat it. Sometimes there is no room for certain considerations, and survival is one of those times in which almost everything else is secondary.

no way. that would mean having to kill my Eddie dog and I'd never EVER be able to do that! I too would probably feed him more than myself. I'd live off berries or something.

I think I would eat my pet if it's a question of survival. Though I feel like puking while thinking of such an idea like eating a cat or dog as I was typing my response to your discussion but I am certain that if it's a question of survival and especially if my kids are involved, I would eat or kill just any animal that I could find just to let them live longer.

I don't eat my friends...either my own or other animals. Main reason for me to be vegetarian is to save animals.

Absolutely not! I think I'd eat grass or weeds or something first! Our cat is our baby! LOL He gets more catering and attention than my husband does! LOL

Definitely, not!! My dog is like my son, so to me it would be like eating my child. I wouldn't never eat him.
