Do you take naps?

LOL kind of a funny question, but I am just wondering how many of us out there need extra sleep during the day. I almost always take a nap on my days off from work. I have been known to take up to 3 hours of downtime! Then again, I am pregnant. But even when I wasn't, sometimes I just get really tired anyway. My job is very physical-I am a housekeeper-and I am a single mom of 2 kids.

I do take a small nap after my daughter goes to school. I usually stay up late cleaning up and answering emails and so on. So, I will take a small nap in the morning, then start my chores for the day. When I was pregnant, I loved to sleep. It is a good thing because I was on bed rest for 8 months! LOL, but during pregnancy that is normal to be more tired and need more sleep. Your doing things for two and sometimes more than that! Not to mention you have children outside of the womb too!

LOL yes, I like my sleep for sure! Even when I wasn't pregnant, I would crash sometimes wothout warning-just get so tired and need an emergency nap. But for the most being non-pregnant I am good to go :)

I dont take a nap on a regular daily basis, but I have been known to take a couple hour nap with the kids when they lay down. My husband has to take a 1-2 hour nap daily to feel up to par! I think napping is good, it refreshes you, and your body gets a rest. When I was pregnant I took a couple of naps a day, usually only 1/2 hour to 45 minutes a piece, but it worked.

I have never been one of those people to only sleep for a half hour or so. If I get tired enough during the day, I sleep!! I at least lay down and crash for an hour and half to 2 hours.

I would nap eveyday if I could. I usually nap several times a week though; mostly due to my chronic fatigue syndrome and some of the medications I take make me very tired. It gets very hard for me to function. You are busy, being a single mom and working. You deserve the nap...take a good rest when you can, because it will help rejuvenate you.

My daughter slept a lot during her pregnancy. She was always tired. They found she had low iron. Have you had your levels checked? Just a thought.

YES! I take them most days because I am tired a lot because I lack sleep. Plus still sick. Now I'm working a job where I get up and go to work before 6am each day that I do it (4 days a week) so now when I get home around 10am I sleep for a few hours. I NEED it cause I keep loosing sleep. The MAIN reason I am sick again is because of it. I gotta get used to getting to bed earlier. I just started the job. Talk to me in a few weeks about if it works :)) but I love a great nap 1 hr to 4 is the max I have done! Naps rock!

LOL naps do rock. I don't usually need naps on my days off that I don't work, but being pregnant I appreciate the free time I can have to get some extra rest!

When I've been expecting, I've always needed a nap. With the last one it was even worse because it was summertime and I am not a good summer person. The heat makes me even more sleepy. Now the baby is 4 1/2 months old. He wakes up once a night still so sometimes I need a nap. Today was definitely "one of those days". Another possibility for you could be anemia. Have you had your hemoglobin levels checked often? It happens easily in pregnant women especially but just being female increases your risk.

Yes, I have had my iron levels checked and as far as I know everything is fine. I was very anemic with my first pregnancy. I didn't get overly tired, I was cold though. My hand and feet were like ice even when it was warm out. LOL I don't know what it is like NOT to be pregnant in the summer. My first child was born in October, my second in August, and this baby is due in September.

I definitely do NEED naps and I have even been known to nap during my break at school... I just find a quiet place to curl up. Other times though I nap too long and then it messes up my sleep cycle! I wish I lived in Europe where people nap every day no matter what!

Ugh I could never push myself to keep going, unless I am at work and have no choice but to stay awake! Sometimes I would rather just nap because if I push too long, I end up going to bed far too early which then my entire routine is all messed up.

Wow....I can't remember the last time I was able to take a nap, not counting when I am sick. My day is just way too busy for me to be able to take a break like that. My 2 year old son takes a nap everyday, and during that time, I am teaching and spending time with my other kids, cooking, cleaning, etc. It's great that you are able to rest a little during the day, especially since you are pregnant, and your body is working double-time. Maybe when my youngest is a little older, I will be able to rest a little sometimes....until then, the hurricane of my life continues....

LOL I do remember those days when I could not sleep during the day-but the reasons were because I was afraid for what I would wake up to. My daughter was a little Tazmanaina devil when she was a young toddler, and she would get into everything. Now that my kids are older, I make them stay quiet and find things for them to do. Eh, house cleaning can wait as far as I am concerned :) My sleep is precious right now!

I find that on the weekends I could take naps- SOmetimes when I'm enjoying down time I fall asleep. Its a great feeling- I wake up all refreshed- But then I think oh no I wasted the afternoon. I get pretty tired at work around 2 PM and would love to take a nap-- But of course my workplace frowns on that : ( I would love to take naps daily if I could!

LOL I never think that I have wasted my time while napping. If I was that tired, to me the only thing that carries importance is that catch-up rest!

If I didn't take a nap sometimes I don't think I would be very easy to deal with. I have to take a nap usually as I find I am usually up with my other half when he is off to go to work each morning. Sometimes I will try to go back to bed after he has left for work & I find it extremely difficult to do so. Once I had woken up I mine as well stay up because half of the time I can't fall back to sleep later on anyways. So then I have to take a nap later on in the day as I find I begin to feel weak or extremely exhausted to the point where I have no energy. Sometimes I find taking a nap helps to reenergize me & enables me to have enough energy to prepare dinner for both me & my other half. Or finish up on some of the cleaning I was unable to do earlier on because of my lack of energy. I don't sleep all to often during the night as it is.. So I feel taking a nap helps me to catch up on some of that sleep that I end up missing out on.. I just sometimes feel like I am messing up my sleeping schedule even more by going ahead & taking a nap. As I find a large majority of the time the days I end up taking a nap.. I have an even more difficult time sleeping later on in the night. I don't believe it helps that I've had insomnia for so many years as well though. And when it comes to you.. I think it's important to take a nap as you are pregnant & are working as well. And I have worked in house keeping as well in the past & even though I have not been pregnant.. It is a very physical job & can be very exhausting.. I remember so many times after a day of house keeping how I'd just come home from work.. And I would have no energy whatsoever after a long day of working in house keeping. There we're so many times that my body would ache so much from all of the hours & even hard work I had put in to my job on that particular day.. That the moment I hit the bed I was out.. So if I was feeling like that when I wasn't pregnant. I can only imagine how it feels for you sometimes.. I think taking a nap probably helps you out during the day to feel more energized. Or at least to keep you going half of the time. In conclusion.. I still do take naps to this very day.. I find if I didn't sometimes I would just be rather crabby which makes it even more difficult for anyone to be around me.. Especially my other half.. Plus I find sometimes taking a nap helps me to have the energy I need for later on in the evening to prepare dinner, & to do a few things that I was unable to do.. Earlier on throughout the day. I sometimes think taking a nap is beneficial, other times for me personally I just find it to be a waste of time in all honesty.. As I wake up after my nap feeling even more exhausted afterwards! A body is a strange thing if you ask me! . . Thanks for allowing me to share! xx

I do think my job has alot to do with it, being so tired I mean, because I have felt tired a lot of the times coming home from working even before I got pregnant. So get a double whammy now. I think another factor why I am so tired is I don't drink much caffeine like I did before I was pregnant either. I used to rely on that to keep me going.

Well thank you very much! I love my naps...in fact today being one of my days off, I have a nap coming up very soon. I have company coming tonight, so I need to hurry up with it! Wow, I can't imagine having to work so late every night. I bet if it is what you are used to though, it wouldn't be so bad. :)

LOL We as mothers and wives we always have other plans than what we expect!! (Although I am not a wife anymore LOL.) Mine are usually power naps too. I do feel alittle groggy sometimes after, but my energy levels always come back and I feel much better after the fact!

I Think I usually sleep a lot, I would take a nap any day i can, i like vacations for that, most times I can't sleep late in the morning even if I don't have to work so naps are perfect to get some extra sleep. it can be up to 3 or 4 hours sometimes, I never took naps when I was younger, I think it started in my early 20s..

I can't sleep in late either. I guess that is why the naps come into play. I am usually out of bed by 7:30 on my days off, but I will get up and going by 6 if I woake up that early (because that is about what time I get up to get my kids off to school and me to work.) Funny, I never like napping as a kid either. I rmember staying away the whole time until I was able to get up, never being tired. Those days are over for me now!

Great subject. Thank you for starting it and it was great to get so many responses and sensible ones. My answer is a bit varied and complicated. I do not really like the need to have a nap and try and get enough sleep during the night. Now that I have discovered the internet I don't have time (to sleep at all really - or eat) but it also depends on the jobs I have had during my life. With my children young I had to fit around them. Some Christmases I worked at night so had to sleep during the day anyway. I could only do that during the dark winter not waste the summer. Now they are teenagers and about off to university I work evenings and help my mum during the day. If I felt tired enough for a nap I was lucky that my internal clock would wake me up in time (ie to collect them from school) and was surprised that I could dash up and out. It takes me ages to get going in the morning. Good luck.

Well thank you and I am glad you took the time to respond! It seems to me though, even if I get a decent night's sleep, I still get hit sometimes during the day with exhaustion. I know what it is like working late into the night, although I have never worked overnight.

I have my days too, where things are so fast paced, that even when I am tired, as you said, there is no time for sleep in the middle of the day! I often get tired on lazy days here at home, or after cleaning house or running errands. I usually go to sleep anywhere from noon to 2. Like a child, right after lunch time.

You like to sleep when a hosre is not around? I can sleep perfectly fine when no one is around. LOL the only people that here anyway I try to sleep are my kids, which are good to me and usually stay quiet if I try to rest, but I sleep more soundly if I know I do not have to worry about them.

I'm a SAHM too so when my 10 month old daughter takes her afternoon nap, i usually get a little bit in there too - although it's never usually longer than half an hour or so, something will happen or my dog will bark & that'll be the end of it for me. Prior to my daughter's arrival though, i would take 2 or 3 naps during the day, same as immediately after her arrival, i just found myself being tired a lot - even though she slept pretty well all night!

Sometimes it is just hard for me to stay wake, knowing I still have much of my day left. In fact just yesterday I woke up at 6:30 Am, and laid back down at 8:15, and slept for an additional 2 hours that shortly after waking up! I guess I should have just stayed in bed a little longer. :)

Naps are healthy and gives you some extra energy for the rest of the day. I take a nap every day after coming from work. Thirty minutes to an hour would do it. Then I'm ready for the rest of my chores. Keep doing it.

LOL I plan on keeping my naps :) I could not survive some days without that extra sleep. You are lucky though, that you can rejuvenate in such a little amount of time. I don't think I have ever had a nap in any time under one hour.
