Doctors' Handwriting. Why is it ugly?

I really don't understand why doctors write in a way that we could not understand. Why do they write like this?

jan2001 Aiy, yi, yi...I think that bad handwriting is a pre-requisite for becoming a doctor. My doctor's handwriting is so deplorable that the last time he wrote a script for a catscan the radiology department had to call his office and have the script deciphered....

jan2001 ElicBxn, you just made me laugh. When my mother and her siblings were in their 50s my grandmother still called them her 'kids' and even chastised them as if they WERE still kids.
