petbedcity Yep. It was real. There were apparently more than one bear at one point. The others talked about them. I seem to remember that the Darma people were doing animal experiments a long time ago.

desertdarlene Actually, the polar bear is real. I think Jacob might be something, but I don't know what. If he wasn't real, then Ben could have set up a booby-trap to kill Locke. Therefore, Ben must really think someone was there.

roquelaure if you watch the high def version of the episode on tivo/dvr and go through it frame by frame while Ben is talking to Jacob, there is a brien flash of a man sitting in the rocking chair! (No, I didn't do this, but the frame is on tmz.com's Lost Blog)
