Why are Americans the only ones that suppose to tip at restaurants?

In many other countries, customers dont leave tips (as a custom) while eating at restaurants, at least not the typical 15 to 20 percent that we are expected to do here in US... It is considered rude if we dont... why do we have to...

nider14 In Canada people tip at least 15%. Some other countries to don't tip as it is a custom. However, often the tip is already included in the bill, so no tip is required.

Fess up Who here is a lousy tipper? I always tip 20%(the standard) for service, great or lousy. although I think it is the restaurant owner's responsibility to pay its staff a reasonable wage, I am aware they only recive a measly...

nider14 I've never worked in a restaurant, yet I still understand that servers depend tremendously on there tips. Even in Canada, where they are paid more ($6.00/hr) than in the USA, it still isn't enough. So, tip generously this holiday season.
