I recently went out of town today and went to a shopping mall with my daughter. We had shopped and went to get into the van when a guy, about the age of 34 came over to me limping(grungy looking) and asked if i had spare change to give,His words exactly "Excuse me mam, could you spare some change,im very hungry and lost my job awile back and am having a hard time to get by.I have a bad leg and cannot work and i havent ate since last night.blah, blah",So of course i gave him some change,$5.00 and he said thankyou, your very kind.WELL,i decided to get some KFC for supper and when i went in the fri**in store he was there laughing and having the time of his life walking around like normal. He saw me and became red and left quickly with his nice box(tub)of chicken pieces.I was sooo mad.I was had by a good fake.I never said a word, but i will never forget his face!Have you had this happen to you before?

That stinks. The worst part of it is more and more people are doing it. I'm convinced people are trading in shame for stupidity and shystering. So many people are blatantly cheating other people and its so sick. But of course if I was to know a fake, tell him no or tell them to shove off, some could indeed try to warp the law against you (I've seen a couple of occasions of it). Worst yet, I really just want to beat these people down, but that too leads to jail. -_- Here's another thing, there are fakes with panhandler licenses, in several cases the things are easy to obtain. /facepalm Its just frustrating all over Peanut, at least you know someone else knows how you feel.

Hi programmer:)Its the first time its happened to me and believe me the next time will not happen.I will be more cautious. As the old saying goes like the boy who cried wolf,"what comes around goes around".He might indeed end up like what hes portraying and then what!People will still think hes faking:)

There use to be this guy that would hang out at the mall in a wheelchair asking for spare change and all that. Alot of people would give him money. A few weeks after I saw him at another mall walking around just fine. It's very frustrating because there are legitamate people in wheelchairs or are otherwize disadvantaged that really do need help and this guy is posing. It really made me mad.

Yes,i know one (actually alot),He got a special sign so he can get a nice check per month and park in the special marker for the handicapped.I saw him running one time behind his house one day.In public he walks all croached over and limps on the left foot.Grrr.Even a woman got a electric wheelchair and said she could not walk because of her health problems.(shes over weight but able to walk fine).Living in a small town, you see things when your not suppose to and people talk alot.

Something kind of like this , but yet not happened to us. I was in a store one afternoon and my oldest daughter came in to tell me my mom was out in the car crying. So i hurried what I was doing and ran out to see what was wrong with her. She had seen a homeless man across the street and he looked like he was sick. The temps that day was freezing cold and snowing slightly. So we went across the road and offered to take him to the Shelter in Dodge City. He refused because he had a dog with him and they wouldnt let his dog in.Well to make my story a bit shorter , my daughter gave him her warm down filled coat (she had another coat at home). I gave him a small bag of food for his dog and gave him some things from our groceries. We left to go finish the things we were doing that afternoon and when we saw him again I gave him 5 dollars . Then i find out a few days later that he could have a home because ,but he chooses to live on the streets. I no longer feel sorry for him ,but for the pets he drags along with him .

Awww poor alligator! I mean, I don't feel too sorry for you, but the alligator is a different story! *giggles* Eh, I never even thought about whether shelters allowed pets. I didn't have any pets when I was homeless.

Hi peanutjar, I have had this sort of thing happen to me before and it is very frusterating. Just remember you were the one helping a person whom you thought was in need, and he's the one of many who have ruined it for people who really are in need. Love & Hugzz, Your Friend, PurpleTeddyBear.

Anytime anyone asks me for some spare change I always give it. I would feel just horrible if I did say no to someone thinking they weren't in need but were. It just kind of hurts when you see first hand that they didn't really need it as much as you thought they did! Love & Hugzz, Your Friend, PurpleTeddyBear ;)

Yes I have had this happen before and that is why I won't give out any money to a person. I give to the food bank and school charities. I donate clothing and holdhold items to local charities. If someone needs help I would refer them to one of the local charities for some assistance. This way you can still do your part to help people but there is more trust it is going to people who truely needed it. My mother used to beg out in Toronto when she was a teen. She had a home, health, job, and food on the table. When she was bored she would just sit on the street and beg. Easy money and its not like these people are going to see me again. She suckered a lot of people that way. SO YES there are many scammers out there!

It is a universal phenomena and they make use of our sympathy to get money.there is no need to feel angry with that.Remember they have put down their dignity and not take himself as a human being .Why did we care about it.If me ,I will give him money next time but not due to sympathy but disdain.

i'm really mad when i see something like this... not only because i feel cheated, but also i think they are not respecting those people who are really disabled... they are just a bunch of lazy people who want to get easy money without having to work... so annoying...

This has happened to me before. Someone came up to me and said that their car had broken down and they just needed bus fare, so I gave him $5 (I had a roll of coins). A few minutes later, I was driving past the Dairy Queen and I saw him in there.

I detest People like that they should be grateful that they are healthy I would give anything to have my Health back and I would certainly never use it for something like that either This is why I do not give anymore as there are to many faking If this ever happens again what you want to do is tell them that you have no change and that you will buy them something to eat and drink and that is when you find out if they are fake Sweet I did that once and the Person just walked away

Hello gabs:)Next time if it happens again i will do exactly that.It is bad when they lie/fake about an illness or something when there is real people who are not faking. It gives a bad look when it happens, because you dont know who is really suffering and who is not.But buying instead is one way thats good to find them out.:) Peanutjar:)

It's really a shame my friend, which we sometimes feel taken aback by these selfish people. Most of the times, this is the reason why most of us tend not to give help. The best thing here is, avoid giving money and instead give them food like candies or bread. If they refuse to accept it, that means they are the one's which are faking their conditions.

I've had things like that happen to me. I suppose I just don't worry about them much. If I had the money to give, and I gave it, then I did what I needed to. So that's where it ends for me. The act of giving itself is enough, I don't need to know what happens beyond that. I guess I would rather give money to ten people, and only have one of them truly need it, than to turn away all ten and have that one who did need the money not get it. Of course it would be better if people didn't lie like this. Of course it would be better if we could somehow tell the scam artists from the people really in need. But there have been people who helped me when I was in need, and I don't want to risk not doing the same, when I can, even if it means sometimes being duped.

I hate people who do pull this sort of stunt. I've given money to people and later seen that they weren't as bad off as they made out. In my city there's a number simple phone number set up to refer people in need to. The authorities and shelters have recommended that people give that out instead of cash. Maybe something similar is set up in your city.

There is nothing like that because its rare, very rare that theres homeless people. They all go to the nearby cities like Quebec,Nova Scotia and moncton.Ive never seen a begger here or at the small city/town where i was and found it weird that this man was there.I think he was traveling through.I thought really hard and its funny, its like ive seen him somewhere else before,i just cannot put my finger on it.Maybe he was in another town doing this and i saw him,or in a mall.Hmm

I think it is disguisting when people do that. I live in chattanooga tennessee and you would not believe the encounters that I have had with this. For instance I stopped to get gas before we hit the freeway and while my wife was inside paying a man came up to me giving almost the same story that you just told. I being the generous kind hearted person that I am could not go get something to eat knowing that this man was down on his luck and starving so I reached for my wallet and about that time my wife came out she said what are you doing i said honey this man is hungry I am going to give him a few bucks. My wife responded by telling the man to come in the store and we would get him what ever he needed but that we werent giving cash the man became furious and started cussing and walked away. He was a drunk and he just wanted money to get high on. I believe in the end all people will be blessed or cursed for the things they do in this life

there are a lot of posers out there who would do anything for instant cash. i would feel angry myself if something like that happened to me. my situation was different. i don't really give money to be sure that they don't spend it on booze or on illegal substance. so i offer to give food instead. so when i instead offered food to the beggar, she just turned away and grumbled that she wanted money instead. i was just stupefied.
