I have heard this before that I should not give chocolate or any food with chocolate mixes to my dog. Its really bad for their health and often they got sick and die eating chocolates. Is this really true? I have'nt ask our veterinarian yet about this? Im having fun giving chockies to my lovey chubby he loves it, but I only do it yesterday good thing he did not feel sick yet but then I will still observes his condition in a few more days. I hope that 2 pieces of chocolates does not affect his health.

Yes, chocolates are bad for dogs. There is an ingredient in chocolate that dogs don't or can't digest the same way as humans, and it reacts very differently. Sorry, I can't tell you what ingredient it is, but I remember ages ago hearing a vet talk about it on the radio.

Yes, that's the best idea, even if he is like part of the family.

Chocolate is very bad for dogs and should be avoided. Two bits won't make much difference - lets face it, dogs will eat all sorts of rubbish if they can. haha The trouble is we humans like to think dogs, cats, etc. are the same as us and the nicest thing we can do for them is to give them the nicest things we like. Wrong! They are creatures of habit and just love having the same people around them; going for a walk in the same place; eating the same food at the same time every day. I read the other day of a mother who fed her 9 month baby only on peppermint cream chocolates because they were the nicest possible things to her mind and she wanted the very best for her baby! Luckily the doctor found her in time and she didn't die. You can kill with kindness!

That's wonderful because we do love our dogs, don't we? Even when we feed them the right food we must still avoid being too kind and feeding them too much. Keep them slim and fit! My lab, Ruby, would eat her own body weight of food a day if she could get it!! haha

Though we don't have a dog, the answers on this post is very informative. Chocolates are for humans and dog foods are for dogs. If we turn it the other way around, can you imagine yourself eating dog food? Of course, I'm just joking here I can't imagine myself on it too.

I feed my dog chocolate every once in a while and its 13 years old. If its lived this long with chocolate than I don't see why I should stop. Its not like I feed it chocolate constantly.

I've always heard that chocolate is bad for dogs. I've never had a dog though so I don't know a great deal of info about it. I've found an interesting page about dogs and chocolate that might be worth you reading. http://www.transportcafe.co.uk/dogchocolate.html

Yes, chocolate is bad for dogs. So are onions. Now giving your furry little friend a small bite here or there probably won't kill him, but I wouldn't take the chance. The smaller the dog, the less chocolate it will take to do some damage (as a general rule). A St Bernard could probably ingest what would kill a Pekinese and be just fine. The type of chocolate makes a difference too. Regular baking chocolate is more pure, so a whole package of that would do more damage than a small bowl of chocolate ice cream, or an Oreo cookie or two. Honestly, I don't think you should be giving your dog cookies at all, unless they are dog cookies. Of course he loves it, but that doesn't mean it won't hurt him.

Chocolate is toxic to dogs. He may not have enough in his system yet but as he takes in more it will make him sick and possibly kill him. The better question is: why would you give something to your dog that you know is harmful? Would you do that to your child? It is nothing short of animal abuse if you give that dog one more piece of chocolate.

I have heard this so many times. I asked my vet, he says it's not good for them to have much. Anything in moderation is ok. It's like everything if they eat too much, and they will if you let them. It's going to be bad for them. I was even told not to give my rotti chocolate that it would kill him. He eats it when I do, in moderation. Just a little bit. My babies eat the same things I do. They love chips, nuts, ice cream, etc. They have taste buds just like us with likes and dislikes too. Just make sure what you give your baby is not much at any given time. Small amounts do not hurt. I've had 3 vets tell me this. It's hard to get them to say this because some people just do not know what a small amount is. Just remember that they have small stomachs and it does not take much to fill them up or much of a snack for them. They may not agree with this but how many children do you know will. That's really all they are is children.

Chocolates are not really bad for the dogs. It really depends on what was put in as one of it's ingredients. My friend has a dog and they give it chocolates. Well, I think it is not an ordinary chocolate. It's a chocolate design for dogs.

Yes chocolate is toxic to dogs. If you want to give your dog a "special treat" you can make homemade chocolate looking treats by using carob powder. I make lots of homemade foods and treats for my dogs, because I can control the ingredients---no additives or preservatives.

chocolates re really abd for dogs thats why veterinareians consider choclates as pioson for dogs. because choclates contain theobromin which is a central nervous system stimulant and could cause seizure, excessive urination which could elad to dehydration and also heartprobems

Yes its bad for dogs. A little bit probably wouldn't hurt him but I would not give it to him at all. My dog got into some chocolate that was left on the table one night. I fed her burnt toast as I read that would help. She got a little hyper before she ate the toast but she was okay after that.

Don't give chocolate to your dog it's like poison to them. Instead give your dog carob it's like the equivalent to chocolate except your dog can actually digest it and it won't hurt him. When you feel the need to give your dog sweets try carob (they love it).

a little bit of anything will not harm ur dog..u must b careful abt wt u give...excess of chocolates can lead his coat to shed...he can also land up with skin trouble so take good care of ur dog and give him only what is best for him and not all that u like to eat..he will eat anything tht u give him...i have a friend who has a Hound and when he got his dog to our house i was chopping Carrots and i gave him a piece and it ate almost two full carrots so we teased our friend that he has been cheated as it is a goat and not a dog bcoz it eats carrot..hee hee..but i love dogs especially..take care of ur doggy..

no never . dark chocolate is worse. the smallest amount will hurt a dog . there is something in there that will cause harm. for the most part they wont go near it

Yes, it is bad to give dogs human chocolate. However, go to your nearest pet store and they may have dog chocolate, which does not contain anything bad for your dog other than sugar LOL. Anyway, still feed in moderation or they get too spoilt.

Chocolate contains theobromine, an alkaloid that dogs can't metaboliza quickly. If a dog ingests a large amount of chocolate, the therobromine can build up and reach a toxic level of concentration, leading to cardiac arrest. Different types of chocolate are more harmful than others, and the effects will vary, depending upon the size and weight of the dog. However, it is potentially lenthal.
