i am no smoker, that is why i may not understand why until now, despite so many information being disseminated to the public about the bad effects of smoking..majority of the world's population are still smokers..one bad thing about smoking is the disease that you can get from it..but the good thing about it(that is according to the people i know who are smokers)is that it releases them from everyday stress..is there really a truth to that?..pls. share your opinions..

Theres a good side of smoking? The only people who would say smoking is good are the people making money from people who smoke. And hey if I was making money off of people who were smoking I wouldn't mind people smoking either but I think people who smoke do not care or even consider others around them. They are selfish and hell why not charge them with trying to kill someone with the smoke. They are finding out that second hand smoke is causing so many problems in people. I think its good that they are making public places non smoking.

I see no good side of smoking. I live with two smokers, and being a non- smoker it isn't the greatest. it discolors your teeth. gives u bad breath and discolors yours walls and stuff if you smoke indoors. I have never smoked and seeing what it does to you it makes me happy i never did. it makes a lot of people wacky when they dont get the nicotine, and some people get really irritated and cranky without it too. so when i look at all that there is no good side to it

First I would like to know if you can direct me to a source where it states that majority of the world are smokers because I've never heard of that "fact". And about getting disease thru smoking, it has not yet been proven that you do - there is, however, a correlation between smoking and cancer. The "good thing" that you mentioned is not as "good" as it sounds because the same chemicals that release stress thru smoking is also the same addictive chemicals in it.
BTW, I don't smoke and I find it inconsiderate when people smoke in public, supposedly non-smoking areas. I do not wish to "restrict smokers' freedom" but I also don't like it when MY freedom is restricted.

i am not a smoker as well and i can never understand people who like to smoke... as far as i know, smoking only has bad effects especially to your health and it is also harming the people surrounding them (passive smokers)... i think the adds doesn't really help people a lot to quit this habit... may be they want to do it... but it is so hard once you are addicted to it... that's why i am grateful that i never try smoking before and i never have any intention to try anyway... as for relieving stress, i doubt it as well... may be it is temporary relief... but once you stop smoking, the problem is still there and you still have to face the reality... take care and have a nice day...

The cost, the stink, the health problems. I'm an ex-smoker. I quit ten years ago. My parents still smoke, and when I visit them, the first thing I notice is how bad it smells. Smokers have no idea. It gets into your clothes, your hair and everything you own. Whenever we return from visiting my parents we have to air our stuff out for weeks to get rid of the smell.

For the good side, it gives some people relaxation and a satisfaction in a way. That's subjective anyway. For bad sides, there's more. The second-hand smokers or those who may inhale the smoke will also suffer. It's like sharing the virus to everyone.

That's true. Most of the heavy smokers I know are suffering a lot from the painful life. Smoking is the way to release. In our country, government tells us to give up smoking, but they never take any effctive measures, because tabacoo can add the tax income of the country.

that's just a fallacy..!! it's all about the persons mind and everything is just like a scapegoat but if you really wanted to be relieved from stress then there are so many ways, healthy ways of doing it. you are even adding stress in your body's system since we all know that nicotine is kinda has an effect of being a stimulant, thereby increasing everything or any activity in your body. is that the way to remove the stress, i don't know and don't have any idea but i am only speaking with what i have'd experience with smoking. i have tried it, experimenting it just like what you said that it is a stress buster yet i only get so many bad effect from nicotine. dry mouth, dry lips, sore throat, irritation in your throat, bad smell (hands, face and mouth). you see, all of them are stressors not even a single one. it is up to you how to divert your mind in every stress, somehow the only thing that i have seen is when you are smoking by the group and that you keep interacting with anyone and you slipped your mind out your stressors which is a diversional activity.

there's no good side in smoking.. the saying that it can ease your stress is not true, releasing stress is psychological, which means you can release it in other way than smoking..

The bad thing about smoking for me is that i am asthmatic, i have asthma, and if someone smokes near me i can't breathe.
I'm not sure there is really a good thing about smoking, unless you are a smoker and you do it for pleasure or stress relief. It's certainly not healthy. It makes your teeth and hands yellow. It makes your breath and clothes stink. It makes your face age years before you get older. There are so many negatives, and no positives that i can think of.
