The hole is not in his butt, his butt is in the hole!

Yesterday they knocked down the derelict house next door. Today they came back to fill in the hole. At least the stringy little guy who drove the dump truck did. He backed in from the laneway and edged slowly towards the lip of the old basement. He stopped about 6 feet from the edge and started to raise the dumper which was full of dirt. Luckily I happened to be outside and could stop him from dumping the dirt on the ground and missing the hole completely. I should have let Spunky my dog take care of it............. I guided the truck backwards with hand signals but before I could give the STOP sign, the edge of the hole began to crumble and the entire truck went a*s first into the hole! Spunky, who was standing beside me, looked at the truck, a*s first in the hole, nose pointed to the sky, looked up at me, shook her head, and went back to her dog run. I swear that dog has a pet name for ME called 'dufus'! LOL So now I have to get the truck pulled out of the hole. The poor driver had to climb out the window onto the hood and jump from the fender to the ground. He was NOT happy. He even refused my coffee! The nerve of the man! Know where I can get a big enough tracker to pull a dump truck out of a dump?

I don't know for sure, Sparks, but I think you are the only one who could get yourself into something like this one! lol =} Make sure you let us know how big of a tractor it takes to pull a dump truck out of a dump.

It's not that big Barb, but I'll bet, especially because of the angle, it'll take one of the bigger tracktors around to get it out without damaging the frame on the truck.

Just how big a dump truck is it, Sparks? My husband owns a tri-axle dump truck that will haul 26 Ton legally. I think it would take a very large tractor to pull him out of a hole. AND I'd hate for his to get in a hole. It may never come out.

Poor guy. First my dog convinces him she's rabid and then I dump his dump truck. Good thing he doesn't live in town! LOL It's going to cost a fortune to get the truck out, so I'm not looking forward to telling the hubby.........ROFL

Champion effort sparky! Thank God you're not in construction full time. lol. I do like the fact that you're environmentally conscious though. Looking to bury and recycle a dump truck may have just bought the earth a few more years of existence!

Oh, Sparx. I didn't know there was anyone else in North American who could have the same kind of luck I have!!! And, with that ground frozen, how the hell did it crumble??? And, why didn't it when the back hoe was there knocking the damned thing down??? Good Lord!!! YOU did nothing wrong - if there weren't signs of weakness in the foundation, you'd have no way of knowing it would give way. I can't believe it - I thought these things only happened to me.

It was a track hoe not a back hoe.........the wheels are inside tracks like a tank and with the extended arm that had the bucket on the end, the track hoe never got near the edge of the basement. I think that the frost coming out of the ground, as well as their removing the cinder block walls of the basement made the edges around the hole weak, plus the fact that the bucket was pounding the sh*t out of the ground there to break up the debris before scooping it into the dump truck yesterday for removal. The dump truck driver just backed up too far and the weight of it with all the 'fill' dirt in it, bore down on his rear axle and the edge gave way.........the whole side didn't cave in, just enough off the top to create a 'slide' and the dump truck went with it. It's nearly straight up and down leaning a bit forward but not much. LOL I'm glad to know that this has happened to someone else besides me! ROFL A couple of years ago my hubs was grading our front lawn with a small bobcat and got the 'scooper' thingy caught under a cedar tree root and the whole bobcat went up onto it's nose. The hubs panicked of course and I laughed myself silly! Now the jokes on me! LOL

So, even better. A track hoe will be more centered and have better pulling power. And, probably cheaper than an actual tow job (I'm guessing - I'm thinking they'd charge the hourly rate they were charging already).

If he's in that hole at an angle and not a 90 degree angle, you might be able to use the same back hoe to pull him out with some towing chain.

Just took you sticking your head outside your door to get in trouble today, didn't it, Sparks? That is so funny! Well, you were doing the right thing, but you should have been a good neighbor and let him do his job, and then he'd have had to SHOVEL it all in. "Looking back" is 20/20. Poor guy had bad eyesight. AH, but he was listening to a woman. Apparently, you made an impression on him yesterday.

I have sat here and laughed and laughed about this! I told my husband and he's got a good laugh! We can just picture you out there telling the guy how to back up to the hole, and BANG - in the hole he goes! Yes, you should have stayed in bed. It would have been cheaper to have him put it on the ground and then hire someone with a tractor and scrape to push it off in the hole!

LOL... albeit unintentional... isn't revenge sweet, my friend? ha ha ha ha. To tell you the honest truth, I wouldn't worry about getting him out of the hole. He thinks he's so darned clever, let him work it out for himself. Or, if you don't feel that way inclined, talk to Spunky. I'm sure she'll lead you to some ideas for getting the truck out of there! She seems like a very intelligent dog! Brightest Blessings.

You can't turn down an offer like that, my friend. Also, I don't think you should have to bear any costs. The driver trusted you to guide him correctly, and after all, you weren't aware that the walls of the hole weren't supported and about to collapse. That's surely a fault of the man who dug it. Most times, a hole will be supported with planks etc, so that this kind of collapse doesn't happen. Off with that guilt cape, and keep dancing, my friend!!! :)

This is the first time in my marriage I've cost the hubs 'unexpected' money. So yeah, revenge is sweet! LOL I spent most of last night on the phone and have the matter sorted now, and thank goodness it won't cost as much as I thought. The willing farmers said they'd get the truck out for coffee as long as I was willing to be the butt of their jokes for awhile! How can you turn down an offer like that?! ROFL

lol, sparks your luck sounds like mine. I swear if it wasn't for the bad things I wouldn't have anything going on. I could suggest that he call for one of the other guys from work thta has a big truck to come pull him out. It's going to be a hard job to do if the dirt is still in the back of the truck. That much more added weight it won't be eay to pull it out. He can't blame you for the side crumbling, well yes he can ...anything to keep from blaming himself and forgetting that he was going to dump the dirt in the WRONG PLACE...OH yeah...he forgot that huh?

OMG! What a dreadful responsibility for you! It was only very slightly your fault, though. The driver of the truck must have done that job a thousand times before and could have used his previous experience of holes to know that edges are wont to crumble when approached by large loads of dirt designed to fill them. Spunky was not criticising you. She was merely expressing complete puzzlement over the ways of humans and went back to her run in case someone was shouting at HER.

Well, OK, he was young and 'inexperienced' ... it was still his job! I wish you had posted a photo! It puts me in mind of a wonderful vid of an 'incident' somewhere in a small Irish seaport where a car goes off the quay into the water so they fetch a smallish crane truck to fish it out but the truck ends up toppling in on top. They fetch a much bigger crane and that has problems too! If I find it, I'll post it here. It should cheer you up by showing that you ain't alone - these things happen!

I am almost positive (99%) that MyLot do not know a thing about it. From their end it looks exactly as if you have closed your account legitimately. MyLot will only know that something is wrong when you specifically state that you did NOT close your account (and that you believe that it was done illegally). Their server records should show the IP address that accessed the particular link that closes an account. If that is not the same as your IP address, it would be quite clear than an offence was committed. If you have ever had occasion to close an account here, you will know that MyLot sends you an email with a link in it. This link contains a code which looks like rubbish but must be a code that identifies your account in some way. Although it is in code, anyone with a little knowledge of how things work, a piece of software and some processing time and a bit of data might be able to work out how that code is created. Once they have that information, they are able to close ANYONE's account exactly as if that person had closed it themselves. I am, as I say, almost certain that this is how this/these trolls are closing accounts. I cannot believe that they are doing it by posting maliciously false 'reports' and nor do I believe that they have access to MyLot's database as such. The current troll (masquerading as you #2) has already threatened me with deactivation - which I reported at length to MyLot - so don't be surprised if Owlwings suddenly disappears. *I* shall certainly be here, however, along with certain others who are actively doing our best to get this thing stopped.

No Way!!! Sparks!!! How could such a thing happen?? No Way!!! (shakes head) I just can't believe this. It will take a semi to pull that truck out. There are towing companies that are capable of towing the dump truck out of the hole. I can not believe the ground crumbled like that. Wow!!!

Nose in the air - A dump truck with it's nose in the air after a little mishap.
Oh Sparks! That is hilarious. This dump truck driver must have been completely incompetent with bad depth perception to boot. It's going to take a crane to get it out of there without doing major damage to the undercarriage of the truck. Hope you find something big enough to get it out of there. Pat Spunky on the head for me, she probably would have done a better job of driving the truck!

Sparky, dear, I think you put this under the wrong topic. "You are not crazy" doesn't exactly fit you, now does it? I make darn sure my hubby is the one to direct any major operations like that. They all know me too well to trust me to direct any big machinery. I am known as a destructive force all by myself. (Nobody in their right mind parks anywhere close to behind my car. It's my land, I ain't looking behind me when I back out!) And that's just the tip of the iceberg. So I can relate to you. And to the dog. My mutt does the same thing to me when I goof.
