Just got the scare of a lifetime

Just a minute ago the house started shaking and the noise was so loud. I live in Florida and not far from Kennedy Space Center. I forgot there was a rocket going up tonight. Usually my husband tells me but he was out today and never saw the news. I saw it but forgot all about it until the noise is so scary and for some reason this one is really shaking and extremely loud.
At least in the day time when it goes up we know it and the tv has complete coverage and we go outside to watch it.
Wow, I thought I was use to them but apparently not.

Yes it is chaotic. People have only so much time to get to shelter and it isn't very much. They are too busy thinking of that and also since they have been living with them I believe all they want is them gone and not coming their direction.

I've never seen a rocket go off with my own eyes. I just saw it on TV. If it were me, I would be very excited.

I've been to dozens of rocket launches over the years, including many space shuttle launches, and no matter how many times I've experienced it, I always get surprised when the ground starts shaking! It's what I call a "Florida earthquake." haha

@ramapo17 With sinkholes being common in Florida, and our vast underground aquifer, I'm surprised there's not more ground caving in from the ground shaking from the rocket launches.

You are near the Kennedy Space Center? Do they always launch spaceships there?

@mlgen1037 They are exciting to see and feel. Seeing it on tv does not let anyone feel the ground shake.

Wow! So, every time they launch a rocket your house shakes?

I don't think one could really get used to it. I used to live in a rental near an airport and every time the plane takes off it's just way too loud. I never really got the hang of it. It's incomparable to a rocket though.

I'd love to see the rockets go up but yes it must be scary if not expected though.

@ramapo17 two of my great aunts used to live right by the airport. Their house shook as planes flew in just over their roof - they barely noticed it but I always did

@arthurchappell How could they not notice it unless they were just use to it.

For awhile we were feeling them every week. We actually saw one go up and a little while longer it came back. I forget what that mission was called. Sometimes they meet the bigger station up there. My husband is really into it. Every time one goes up there are lots of our neighbors gathered by the pool to watch it.

I'd be frightened too. It's good to have a reminder of the blast off. When we have the Blue Angels for the exhibition for the 4th of July, they fly over our apartment and we get a yearly treat to see them flying.

We're lucky to be able to see them every year and you know what... they make me feel safe.

It's bad enough living next to an airport, which I used to. I couldn't imagine living close to a rocket launch pad.
Do you get a live view of it taking off? That would be cool!

@ramapo17 I will never forget the night of the SwissAir Flight 111 crash off of Peggy's Cove Nova Scotia. It was very late in the evening and I heard a loud SWOOSH! My entire apartment building shook. I thought it was an earthquake. I didn't realize a plane had crashed just mere miles from where I live until I saw the news the next morning. That was scary.

Wow. That must have felt like an earthquake due to all that shaking because the rocket went up. In Chile I experienced two earthquakes. They were 6.3 and 6.8 ones. One was in the night and it was like a nightmare. The one in the day was more scary to see what was going on.

Luckily I have not witnessed an earthquake. They must be very scary. I have been in many hurricanes and tornadoes and blizzards. I have seen enough.

Guess that's something that would be hard to get used to even if you were prepared. Glad it wasn't something more serious.

Me to. I am always happy when I find out it is just the rockets noise and nothing else.
