There's nothing like our bed and our pillow

I love traveling and seeing other places but I always miss my bed! I don't know if it's just me, but I always sleep badly in a bed that isn't mine and this week of vacation I didn't sleep well, I woke up frequently, the mattress was different and that's enough. I know it's crazy of me but, whenever I can, I take my pillow with me, at first my husband made fun of me but now he also takes his pillow. I can't help but think about the people who have laid their heads on those pillows and drooled over them during the night. I know it's silly to think about this as pillows must be washed and disinfected every time they change guests. These two nights that I slept at home I already felt a big difference in my sleep. Is it just me with this crazy thing about pillows and beds? Picture: this is not my bed but mine is quite similar.

Definitely, if I have to sleep in a strange bed for many days it will drive me crazy.

I understand very well your feeling. When we traveled long distance, I bought two pillows when we reached our destination in the USA and I abandoned them there when we left, but I never wanted to use hotels pillows. We also have a sort of "bag" to use not to be in touch with the hotel bedsheets.

@LadyDuck How do you manage to get jiggy in that bag, Anna? It must be a challenge, or was that part of the fun?

@nela13 I show you a photo, I bought it from Amazon (less than 17 EURO). It's small and light. You place it over the bedsheets and gets inside, so you are sure you stay clean and safe.

That bag sounds interesting, is it a sort of the ones used for camping?

It is hard to imagine sleeping on a bed where dozens of other people have slept. Usually when I did do some traveling I always hoped that the hotel did a good job of washing all the bedding,

You’re not alone and it makes a lot of sense! I can hardly get a good night’s sleep too except in my own home, in my own bedroom. There’s nothing like the comfort of your own bed, with your own pillows, with your own smell hahaha

You would not be the only one. George has a pillow he takes when we travel. Most people don't care for the hotel pillows. I personally don't care either way. I know that the pillows aren't always washed as good as they could be. I know same goes for sheets. Maids and hotel staff have to turn over rooms as quickly as possible. and it's not unusal for them to cut corrners.

@nela13 Pillow cases are, but the pillows themselves never are. They get replaced if they go flat or look soiled enough, but at least in the U.S. hotels don't wash the pillows between guests. Just the cases. Which if you stop to think about it, pillows wouldn't last that long if they were washed between each use. Some guests only spend one or two nights.

Many people don't care about these things but I believe pillows aren't always washed between guest and that is my main problem.

@kaylachan it is a fact, pillows won't last long if they are washed frequently but I hope they use some sort of disinfectant.

@nela13 When I visited my boyfriend (he lives in another state), I was really missing my pillow. It's a pillow that helps my shoulder. I am a side sleeper. I am wanting to get my boyfriend a pillow like mine because he snores.

I know there are many people who like to take their pillows with them when they travel. Some beds aren't very comfortable. I guess we get used to our own.

It is - Home, sweet home for me - though I enjoy travel. In a lighter vein, at times the best part of the holiday is the ride back from the airport to home! I relax more at home than when away.

This is interesting, But I think you don't have to do that. Most guest houses change the pillow cases for every guest. The question of disinfecting, I am not sure about that.

@grenery8 If you feel well with it, than it doesn't matter if it is a sofa pillow.

We always miss sleeping in our own bed with our own pillows and blankets, the softness and the weight of the blankets make for such a peaceful and familiar sleep.
