Does the telephone drive anyone else nuts?

Ya know, I personally could care less if I ever have a phone other than the few times I use it to make a call. Heck I can even order my pizza online now! lol My phone drives me nuts, but then again I have 3 teens that are the biggest cause. I get sick and tired of answering it to a bunch of kids who feel they have the right to know IF someone isn't there then where are they?! LOL Does the phone drive anyone else nuts? I honestly think I could live without a phone for most of my life, perhaps needing it once in a while but not too often!

Oh absolutely lol. I have a 15 year old girl, and a 12 year old girl, and that stupid phone rings non stop. I don't even bother to answer it. I may look at the caller id once in awhile if I'm expecting a call, but otherwise it just rings until they answer it. The only problem I'd have without a phone, I have DSL, need it for that, don't think cable comes out this far into the backwoods yet, but the minute it does.... lol.

We also hate the phone! We do recognise its useful in emergencies, or to call and say 'I'll be late' but the idea of having a long phone conversation does nothing for me. I'd rather either see someone face to face or email them, eiter way I can express myself far better.

Thank you! I thought it was just me. I, like you, prefer either speaking to someone face to face or email. I actually sometimes unplug my home phone and turn off my cell phone at the same time. I have a retired, elderly neighbor who loves nothing more than to call me and tie up at least an hour of my time every time she calls. I will never understand people who enjoy long phone conversations.

So very true especially if it is a good show on tv and you don't want to have to answer the phone. And it never fails that phone will always ring.

I wince when I hear the phone ring. Its become such a problem that I'm actually somewhat worried about it; I don't feel that I should be so negatively affected by such a simple thing. I've reached the point that I don't answer the phone without screening and rarely have the ringer turned on anymore unless I am specifically waiting for someone to call. Invariably however, as soon as I turn the ringer on, I get calls from all of the people (telemarketers, long--should have stayed lost--friends, etc.) Chills down my spine.

You can either buy them cellphones or buy an answering machine. It's the best choice you have. Teenagers are hard to handle, and I don't think they will accept happily the fact that phone is off limits because their friends are driving you mad.

No they won't but the bad thing for me is they both have cell phones and then have the house phone going at the same time too i'm just glad i don't have to pay for their cell phone bill.

right on. Once the last of my three were on there own, I cut off the telephone . I hardly used it and my pay as you go cell sufices for what I need . I do most things on line including talking to my friends on line. Much cheaper and more peace of mind. By them all a cell phone for christmas lol

The telephone and the doorbell ringing as well as someone knocking on the door gives me an anxiety attack. It has for the past couple years now. Not sure why. We just moved, but at my last house I had to put up a "please do not ring the doorbell" sign. I think knocking is just a little better for me than the bell.

At least my door I can see a human and decide if I want to answer it too! lol If it's for my kids I just ignore it. I don't pay the extra money for caller ID so I usually just let the answering machine pick it up but it does get annoying. A lot of times I just shut it off if I'm home alone and leave the answering machine on. If my kids need me they say it's them, otherwise their friends usually just hang up.

Get an answering machine and turn off the ringer. That's what I do. I hate the pone, and I don't answer it unless I want to.
Mind you I don't have teenagers, so maybe it's easier for me to say that.

I do that when my kids are gone but all too often they turn it back on when they come in the door and then forget to turn it off until I'm up 800 times answering it. Drives me crazy! lol

Well my phone sure drives me nuts. But this is not the home phone that I am talking about right now. My office phone and my cell phone both drive me betzerk. Sometimes I am on my cell phone and holding a call on my desktop phone and someone asks me that they have another call for me on their extension lol I sometimes think it would be better if all the phones in the world got lost or vanished all of a sudden and we would all rely on emails or letters to communicate :)

Funny you should mention the phone and pizza... when we are ordering pizza, we often have to discuss who is going to make the call. Neither of us really likes to talk on the phone very much, and when it does ring during a television show or movie, it ends up annoying me. As a result I am both terrible at answering calls, as well as returning messages from those who have called. So, in answer to your question, the phone does drive me nuts all of the time.

lol.. well the good thing is if you have a papa john's nearby, chances are you can order from them online!!!!!I hate it cuz I have to order the local pizza shops via phone... and the funny part is, I've NEVER gotten an order WRONG when typing it in to Papa John's. The humans that take it down in writing over the phone almost always mess something up!

I must admit the phone does drive me insane, especially if I am talking to that person online and they call me whilst I am talking to them.. I mean whats the point of that, if they want to waste money on calls, let them call a premium rate number and leave the phone off the hook whilst connected.

I hate phones. I would usually rather listen to them ring then answer them. I could probably live with only using a prepaid cell phone that only has about 30 minutes a month, but when you need one for an emergency and don't have one, you are screwed. There aren't very many payphones around anymore with the cell phone era.
