How do you come up with ideas for discussions?

There are so many people on mylots now. So many different kinds of discussions. Some get so many responses you can spend 30 minutes trying to read the responses. Some don't even get a notice. Sometimes I'll be reading a posting and an idea hits me, but it is usually somewhat related to what I've been reading...it triggers the idea. How do some people come up with so many ideas? and I'm not talking about "what color is your hair"...

People continually post things that are already on here. You are suppose to do a search for the topic before starting something new. I noticed some of the stupid posts get a lot of comments but the serious good ones don't get any response, why???? Probably because too many discussions and we can't respond to them all.

It is possibly because a lot of people are looking for the quick and easy money, which means they will respond to the discussions that allow them to say a few words and then onto the next one. Keep searching as there are some good discussions, but I know that the inane ones I have started (email account, jokes etc) seem to get more responses than any others.

I'm still a newbie, only here a month, and didn't even know about the search. And sometimes I still don't even think about it. A discussion will trigger an idea and I immediately start a new discussion...though I haven't come up with many new ideas lately..

My ideas for discussions come to me based on everyday problems, solutions, and situations. I enjoy topics that deal with current issues from both the media and in my life. I don't over post discussions, just to come up with some random topic to have people reply. I really want to know what I ask for a reason. I want a real discussion out of every discussion I start.

Exactly if it isn't a topic you are interested in, then what's the point of posting it. Also, chances are if you have an interest in that topic there are bound to be some out of the 50k plus other myLot members that also have an interest in it. Good luck.

it is very hard to think of a discussion. especially an interesting one that will get people to respond. that is why I am not able to start many discussions. sometimes I will think of a discussion then later on when I come to mylot I forget what it was that I wanted to discuss. but yes, sometimes I will get ideas from other discussions.

It has been awhile since I had a really good idea. The last time I got excited about something and posted a discussion, someone criticized me for not doing a search first and realizing that THEY had already started a similar discussion. I don't always think to do that, and neither do the other 10 or so people discussing similar things! ARGH! It was hard that day not to snap back at that person.

I'm glad I looked here. Just a moment ago I was pondering this same issue and to no avail because I still have not come up with an idea for any discussions. I need to find some inspiration. something that makes me think about something I have strong feelings for... What is your inspiration? Where do you find inspiration?

Sometimes I wonder that myself. I have been away for two days, and driving down the road I had some good ideas, now if I can just remember them.lol I just have to stop and think what might be new and interesting to someone who lives in another country. I pretty well take my life for granted. I think sometimes even mundane things interest those far away. I also like to think about what I want to know about far away places. I might ask that. If I have strong feelings about something, or it is fun for me, I will ask about that.

You know, once in awhile I'll have a really good idea in the middle of the night, and then I forget it by the time I get up in the morning! Funny how that happens!

When I start a discussion I generally think of situations that have happen to me in my life or here where I live. Sometimes it is about something that appeared in the news, whether locally or worldwide. You can also discuss various interests like foods, recipes, sports, hobbies, movies, music and pretty much anything you can think of.

It's hard coming up with something original,avant-garde even, lol and yet general enough for lots of folks to answer, especially in the multi-cultural climate, but if a convo works , it's very rewarding and I don't just mean cash-wise!

I agree with you, it is hard to come up with a topic. I usually make sure it's worth reading and not try to post a meaningless topic.

Some people make things up, for some it just pop in their minds. For me i usually came up with ideas sometimes with the things around you, from current events, from issues here in our country. You just sometimes satisfy your curiousity by questioning or by discussing it here.

Well, I get all my great ideas during the night, when I can't sleep. However, I am too lazy to get and write them down and by morning I have usually forgotten them. I also think of them while I am driving along in the car, but then I can't stop to write them down. I think in future I will have to keep a pen and paper handy...just in case something springs to mind.

Well, the secret is that u have to be somewhat a conversational person, a kind of extrovert, enlightened, etc. The discussions just come like that. get to read a lot, especially news, and u get a lot of ideas. And socialise too. Sometimes u could get an idea from the local pub or from a discussion with family or neighbours. And then u throw it up here. And, voila, u have a lot of discussions going!

Yes there are a lot of people here on mylot but remember they are from all over the world so you do not have to read all their responses and with the profile that every member has you can it gives you an idea of subjects to discuss.

I share my experiences, how I feel and ask what I want to know about anything or everything. I share a piece of myself and wants to know if anyone is in the same situation here. I also share my views and let others react from it. I share books I read, hobbies etc.

I used to do quite a few when I first started on mylot but gradually ran out of ideas or learned to check if what I wanted to know was already on here. Now I post things that I need to know on a daily basis, like kids stuff and pets stuff, I've not managed anything deep and meaningful for ages. I tend to spend a lot of time answering my friends discussions or replying to comments on my discussions.

Hi It is always difficult for me to find what to start a discussion about! The thing I am pleased about, is that a lot of the silly ridiculous posts are starting to dissapear!

topics for discussion - where we get our ideas for sharing in the discussion forum is very widely available. Getting involved actively in your life and not sleep walking through it could open a new world for you.
Ideas can come from many areas. It all depends on how involved in life you are. It is funny but I can almost tell the age of the asker in these discussions. Also the country almost has an effect on how questions are worded and thought of. Myself I have other sites that I go to and sometimes a thing is shared there that I bring to here. Personally also my life is so full with critters and things that they often are the idea generators. The news is often on while I am computing and if they do something that is not bad then I can consider it for sharing here. Also it depends on the laziness factor of the discussions. That could be why there is sooo many hair or computer color and type of car and Why this and why that discussions.
