Things have changed. Nothing will ever be the way it used to be.

I grew up in a small town in California, where things were just different, people were nicer, and more trusting. I never had to deal with September 11th, or with terrorism, or with wars. Now all I hear about is hatred, anger, and killings. I get sad knowing my daughter will have to live in a world that is full of ugliness. There is no more peace anymore. And it bothers me because I can't change anything. And the fact is that nothing will ever be the way it used to be. Do you ever feel like times have changed?

No, we are just aware more of it. Don't you remember when the Iraq has our people as Hostages? Or the first attempt on taking out the Twin Towers? Or in the 70's when a serial killer was killing black children? The bad things have always gone one in history.
I don't let it affect me. I focus on the good things we have. There is still love in the world, and peace. You have to look for it. The media doesn't give the good things much attention. I don't let the bad things get me down, I just learn from them and go on.

That's a good attitude to have and a great way to look at life. I tend to be too negative and cynical and end up depressed because I look for everything that seems to be going wrong instead of focusing on what's good. Thank you for your comment. It reminded me to look for the good.

Some things have changed and somethings have stayed the same. If you listen to the media hype you can lose hope and wonder what the reason is for even getting up the morning. If you live in America you are apart of the most prosperous, peaceful society that has ever lived on the earth. The downside is that even with all the prosperity so many people are still lonely and depressed and therefore take our their frustrations on others.

Times have really changed even since I was in school. I would be actually somewhat afraid to send a child of mine (if I had one) to public school. With all of the things that you hear about like school shootings and the like, and how much bullying goes on, I just don't know if I would feel safe sending a child of mine to a public school. It also doesn't seem safe to be on the streets at night, or even to be walking along the streets in the day, to some extent. it really makes me sad. I do still have a lot of hope and faith in humanity, but there is so much bad news out there that sometimes it is easy to worry and wonder where society is really heading.

Yes, it does seem like society is heading downhill. It is like nobody cares, kids all have bad attitudes, etc.
If I had it to do all over again in today's world, I would homeschool my kids. It's just not worth sending them to school to have all the attitude rub off on them. Not to mention that schools are not the safe haven they used to be.

Yes, I feel the same way also. I wish that people were friendlier, and times were better not worse. That we would have more equlity and more time for each other. Sometimes, I can go for days without seeing a single person in my neighborhood. We are not a society, like before, we are just existing to pass the days.

I dont really think things can change this much easily since it is about world and when it comes to world then even a little effect takes a lot of time to get normal. The thing which happpened left an effect on all the world.People have left trusting someone there is an insecurity among the citizens.I think even if it will get normal it would require a lot of time.

I sure do, but it can't all be that bad,
everything changes sometime anyway and maybe it's just
good, it would be rather boring being stuck in the same place forever, nee I don't know, just make sure you do
a lot of nice things for your daughter and
teach her to be nice to other people :)
Take care.

Ya i always come cross such thoughts when i am alone. What actaully the problem is that there is a internal insight in our mind that we should change things and that may be due to our age.

You can make a difference by leading a peaceful life. Meditate daily for world peace. Send out good vibrations feelings for every form of life. I know I sound like I am preaching but there is hope and there is way.

hi Sawsen,
I too have felt bad thinking about the same thing sometime before. Its true that we live in a world that is full of anti-social activities, hatred, harrasments, etc. I too long for a world that is full of love, care, helping and with basic human qualities. If you think well, you can understand that this scenario existed in the times of our forefathers and grand grand fathers, but not to this extent. We now have only to understand what is good/right and what is bad/wrong and teach ourchildren too about these things. A man can live with satisfaction if he lives on good and does righteous things though we need not be Jesus or Buddha for that. Its enough if we can do what is right and live a life of satisfaction. So educate this to your children as they grow up. All the best...

Yes Sawsen, times have changed, no doubt. I think if all of us think of ourselves just as human beings first and forget our religion or put it behind universal brotherhood, half of our problems will be solved. The second suggestion is to rein in our politicians from meddling with others instead of solving our day to day problems. And don't think we can't change anything, for opening a discussion on this itself is a successful beginning.

I too feel the times have changed buit they always do, don't they? In fact i feel if you read below the headlines and read the fineprint you will find more people, more youth who are taking part in peaceful public protests, fighting for peoples rights, social reforms taking place, i feelt ehre is new energy, new mindset where youth today wantt o make a differnce. Today more people, youth iN India are refusing MNC's jobs are not lured by power of dollars as they want o make difference in the society by starting non profit organisations, welfare organisation, becoming entrepeneurs,
I know there are wars, riots and terrorism. But you forget in history there were two world wars, in which wholw world was involved and killed god knows how many people, not to forget nuclear bombings in japan. Then not to forget numeruos wars fought throughout history.
i think society and world is reflection of ourselves. if we all truly feel happy from inside and outside then so will society also. We all should shed our growing intolerance, misconceptions, anger at each other and instead of blaming one another we should think of ways to make world a beautiful place. i feel we all should do yoga and meditation as it is good for physical and mental health. if we all are open minded and think of other's people intersts like we do ours, then much of problems ould be solved quickly.

I have faced these kind of things but I didnt change sometimes I have to change for times that s it, not always. In evrytime you have to deal with different kind of people, sometimes they are bad and sometimes good. Thats it. We cant change other people but we can change us give some idea for them about us. So I think if every people do like that then our society will change as soon.
I think evey people will get upset if there town is bad but dont look down in bad times and try to up your face.

There have always been war and terrorism in this world - if you avided it as a child then I think you were just very lucky. Here in London I grew up facing IRA terrorist bombings every day, and before that we had the Second World War on our doorstep. There is war, terrorism and famine all the time in Africa and the Middle East and always has been. So don't think the world is any worse - just that September 11th bought home to Americans (albeit on a large scale) what most of the rest of the world has faced for years.
