For me, I had a close relationship with Jesus, and he knew I was searching for more knowlege more awareness of god and who we are. Knowing this, I feel Jesus helped me find Buddha. From there they helped me find Rama krishna, krishna, and Divine mother. From there, they helped me find "Auto Biography of a Yogi" and meet Parmahansa Yogananda.
Thats some of my story, what is yours ???
All the Best !!!******

Great journey ironmanx, so where do you stand now in your spirituality?
I learnt about Buddhism when I studied the philosophy of religion at uni. I have tried to be a christian for most of my life - couldn't understand the concept of a relationship with God or Jesus, but Buddhism instantly made sense to me.
Thanks for the great topic hope there is a good response.

Hi mylewis,
It is great fun and very interesting to hear about a persons spiritual jorney.
Thank you for shareing !
so where do you stand now in your spirituality?
For me Yogananda pulled it all together, and his meditation techniques I have found do what he says they will do.
That is, help us get to know god and know ourselfs as a soul, realizing that we are all souls made as our father, god.
So I practice Kriya Yoge for self realization.
Buddha has been a close friend of mine for years now, and I love him sooo !!!******
Concept of a relationship with God or Jesus.
Yes, we are'nt taught much or anything about a personal relationship with God or Jesus. A daily practice of sitting still, with a desire to be with god, we can develop a deep relationship with him, and feel his presence as peace and love.
I have found that through our Disire to find and know God he will bring us to a closer realationship with him.

well that *IS* interesting. My understanding was that Buddhism had no gods at all and that sitting is used principally to promote loving kindness to all beings and to question the concept of reality.
Would I be right in thinking that you have amalgamated the ideas and beliefs of Christianity Buddhism and Hinduism?

I'm so happy you found something, ( buddhism ), that made since to you.
I know little of the practices of buddhism. In reading "The life of Buddha", I coneted with him, and the relationship continues to deepin as the days go by.
The more we understand the true nature of reality, the greater peace of mind we have, and the more peaceful this planet will become.

I am spiritual but not religious. I admire Jesus and Buddha. I have book "Autobiography of a Yogi". I did not meet Yogananda, byt learned a lot about him.
The more I am searching, the less I know.

Speaking your language, I did meet Yogananda. Book is great. Jesus and Buddha have a lot in common. I think we know much more about Buddha than Jesus.
I like Yogananda for showing me that materialistic world is an illusion.

I too concider myself spiritual verses religious.
Jesus and Buddha are two of my best friend's !
With each step we take we get closer.
When you read "Autobiography of a Yogi" you will meet Yogananda.
Although Buddha is one of my best friend's, I am not a Buddhist.
I am a yogi. I am a member of Self Realization Fellowship,
and practie kriya yoga taught by Parmahanse Yogananda.
The deeper I go, the more I see I have to learn...
Do you feel a personal relationship with Buddha, Jesus or Yogananda ?
Is this something you have experinced ?
Thank you polachicago for responding !!!

To be honest, I have not found Buddha just yet. I am not religious these days, so I do not know that I will find him anytime soon.

Thank you for your responce !
Makes since, when the mind is focused on something else, it has no time till that is taken care of.
You may have heard, there is only one distination, God, all paths lead to Him.
Rest assured he knows right where you are, and is with you allways...
His Love is beyond human comprehension.
I Love your honesty !!!******

I had an interesting experience in finding Tai' (thailand's religion, very similiar to buddhism).
When creating a video game character I was attempting to ascertain even a bit of creativity in assigning my nickname. I finally came done to thaine. Well that got shorter and shorter intill it was just tain. I then grandified my computer geeking ability by hanging out on I.R.C. (a glorified instant messaging with multiple rooms that appears to be the only virtual sedative). After awhile I started using the nickname "Tai". A women from Thailand noticed my name, and we got to know each other. On a whim I went to seek information about Thailand and found out about their religion, and how similiar it was to buddhism. What shocked me was I though I had created my own "inner religion" that was completely unique to myself, and only to behold that it had already been passed down by generations for quite some time. I still follow my inner self, but it is nice to know there are so many other people in the world with similiar beliefs.

Okay, whats the best way to say this. I had a weird experience, an anomalous spiritual experience. I went to my own people and they couldn't help and the local majority, the Christians couldn't help me. They didn't understand and they seemed to sit in judgement. It was entirely out of my realm. I didn't understand it either!
An anomalous spiritual experience was not what I was looking for or expecting. I floated. I read that the wise man floats and the fool sinks. I didn't sink is a good way to put it.
After long searches on the internet for a significant amount of time, I found that I had a transcendental experience. Buddhist texts described very perfectly my experience. No other belief system had done this for me. Centuries of people understood what happened to me and could help me. Wow!
I was relieved and very thankful. It was the beginning of my road back to every day. Buddhist thought said to not get caught up in the imagery and the fantastic realms but to take the message of the experience.
Ever since then, I choose Buddhism. I don't really understand the entire religious system of different schools of it but the simplicity of the basic teachings is right for me.
