Maybe just offer them a breath mint regularly. Otherwise you could start a conversation about what you have eaten, ask them what they have eaten and when they admit this you could say that those foods tend to leave an odour in the mouth, without being too...

when i was 16 years, i got electrocuted because i touched a leaked wire. it was terrible, i was bounced off more than 2 meters and my palm hand was injured and bleed. have you ever got electrocuted?

For Christmas, give that person a mouthwash as a gift and say that it's something new and organic and imported. And don't forget to add it's very expensive and you've been using it for quite some time and just want to share how good it is.

Very tricky. I don't tell them and simply step back a little when speaking to them. Funny thing is I don't know if I have bad breath!! I wonder if someone will gently tell me when I have bad breath....
