GuateMom I cook my beans in the crockpot, so there really is no need to soak. If you're trying to save gas on the stove, though, soaking overnight is a good way to go. It really does soften them up.

GuateMom I live in Guatemala, so they have no public libraries here. :( Not with kids books anyway. I'll see if I can find the two that you recommended though!

GuateMom I'm a big fan of pickles on their own. In fact, that is pretty much how I eat them all the time. I do put them in egg salad and potato salad, but no one else in my family likes them (the horror!) so mostly I just munch on them as is.
