Why people watch tragedies?

I have seen several people liking to go to a movie to cry. I think its ok if the story is good and you go once in a while but there are people who frequently do. What makes someone pay money to cry? I always prefer comedies.

I am a fan of Harry Potter books. But i think that the movies except the fourth one dont do any justice to the books. I know the most of the books are around 500 pages long and cannot be fully representated, but still the movies...
