I want to learn about World War II . . . where do I start?

I would like to start studying World War II and I have no idea where to begin! I know almost nothing about the major battles. Can anyone recommend any particularly helpful websites? I would like to get an idea of the battles...

Did anybody see Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest? I liked the fighting scenes and the characters but I don't think it can compare to the original. What are your thoughts on Dead Man's Chest? What would you have done...

ancient_whispers I agree; not as good as the first, but still enjoyable. I can't wait for #3 either - it really makes you wonder how they're going to bring some of the characters back to life for the third part. Then again, I guess anything is possible for Captain Jack Sparrow...

Let's say a friend or family member that you've known for years tells you that they have a new religion. It's very different from yours. Do you continue to treat him/her the same as you did, or can't you reconcile the differences?...

ancient_whispers True ... I always thought it would be intriguing to have a friend with a different faith since we could talk about differences and get a bigger world view. I already enjoy studying about and celebrating cultures and religions different from my own.

ancient_whispers I agree wholeheartedly; genealogy is an obsession for me and I *love* finding new ancestors. I feel close to each person; I just wish I could know what they all looked like!

one day in Paris

If you could spend only one day in Paris, what would you do? What attractions would you see? What would be one thing you *couldn't* miss?

ancient_whispers I think besides visiting the Eiffel Tower, I would choose to see Notre Dame and take a cruise down the Seine. That sounds like such a neat thing to do. I didn't know you could go up in the Arc de Triomphe! I'll have to check into that.

ancient_whispers I agree 100%! The medieval era was always one of my favorite time periods to study. I like reading medieval fiction, but on a side note, nothing throws me out of the novel quicker than seeing a name that just doesn't sound medieval. Has this ever happened to...

ancient_whispers I agree; going to Paris and not seeing the Eiffel Tower is just *not* acceptable! Might as well go to Disney World and never see the Cinderella Castle! :-)

If you discovered you had a twin brother or sister, what would you do? Would you contact him or her or would you be afraid to? What would you say to this person?

ancient_whispers It would be interesting to see how much a twin would resemble or act like you, but I think I would be afraid they would be *too* much like me and would want to start dressing alike, etc.!

how far have you traced your family history?

If you are interested in genealogy, how far back have you been able to go? Has anyone found ancestors in the Middle Ages or beyond?

ancient_whispers I have some Celtic ancestry as well; I've always particularly loved Scotland and Ireland, and when I discovered these lines I finally knew why! Unfortunately I can't get past the 1700s or 1800s on any of my Scottish or Irish lines.

ancient_whispers Agreed; it does help to have a relative connected with the site you are visiting, because it brings it a bit closer to home. My Civil War relative was only 17 when he was killed in battle so I can imagine what it would be like to stand where he fell.

ancient_whispers I stopped by the Wilderness, Chancellorsville, and Fredericksburg a few years ago but unfortunately didn't have a lot of time to explore. I have a relative who was killed at Spotsylvania in 1864, so I do wish I could have gone there.

ancient_whispers I have been to Gettysburg many, many times and am more amazed every time I visit! It is such a fantastic historical site with so much to see.

ancient_whispers I have seen really adorable stockings shaped like fish; they don't come with treats, but are ready to fill. One of the filled stockings you mentioned is a great idea.
